There are plenty of good reasons for incorporating gold into your investment portfolio. To help investors learn more about the potential benefits of going for gold, the Financial Post recently spoke with Sightline Wealth Management for insight.
“I like to think of gold as a long-term generational asset,” says Sightline Wealth Management Senior Vice President and Investment Advisor Paul de Sousa. “If you look at your investments like building a house, gold can supply the first few rows of bricks to form the solid foundation of a diversified portfolio.”
Gold’s versatility and dependability can be demonstrated by the fact that it has remained a store of value for thousands of years yet is rare enough to ensure a limited supply – both of which can be beneficial for potential investors. “If you ever need to call on the value of that gold, liquidity is always there,” adds de Sousa. “Gold can be easily converted to cash in a transparent market. In fact, it’s really as good as cash.”
When it comes to incorporating gold into portfolios, de Sousa recommends that investors buy physical bullion for true gold diversification. Gold trusts and gold funds can also offer an effective way for investors to acquire physical gold exposure without security concerns of having it physically in their possession.
On a final note, de Sousa tells the publication, “Gold has a successful track record as a storehouse of generational wealth for more than 3,000 years. That isn’t likely to change any time soon.”
