When it comes to vulnerable investors, it’s not just elderly people who are at risk. To enhance investor protection, IIROC recently implemented a requirement for firms like Sightline to obtain the name and contact details of a Trusted Contact Person who a firm may contact if they suspect financial exploitation of a vulnerable client has occurred or is likely to occur.
For Sightline Wealth Management’s recent event, investors joined us in-person for a discussion on an important topic: how investors can protect themselves and their loved ones from financial harm. During this event, Paul Taylor, partner with the law firm Borden Ladner Gervais, joined Sightline Wealth Management’s team of investment advisors to specifically provide guidance and clarity on:
- What is Incapacity?
- What is the Power of Attorney?
- What is a Trusted Contact Person?
- What is a Temporary Hold?
- Common issues that arise with investor protection and how to combat them
